A few months back a friend of mine sent me this video on Instagram of a behemoth of a man. It wasn't that he was just huge, he was insanely ripped.
He had a Viking beard, six-pack turtle stomach, and chiseled arms. The guy is a beast and calls himself "the liver king" because of all the liver he eats. He claims it's the most nutrient-dense food and he eats it raw. O, and he eats raw testicles too.
Yes, I said raw.
Watch the videos. It's nuts.
One of the things I kept hearing him say was how our ancestors ate animals "nose to tail".
It's basically saying, he encourages you to eat the entire animal for maximized nutrients and benefits. This includes organs, blood, and whatever else you find in there.
I tried to share this new idea with my wife and she nearly threw up all over me. So, I resort to buying the supplements in vitamin form.
The point is, that nothing should be left to waste. And, when it comes to your talent, treasure and time, nothing should be wasted.
You may hear a similar idea of this when you are negotiating a deal. You may hear someone say, "I don't want to leave any money on the table."
There is an incredible amount of benefit in maximizing everything.
Whether it's the nutrients you gain by eating nose to tail, or the extra money you keep by not leaving it on the table, you can see the benefits.
Let's unpack this idea from a spiritual perspective.
What amount of spiritual time are you leaving on the table? What nutrients spiritually are you missing out on?
When I started typing out this question above, this verse from Proverbs jumped into my brain.
'A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest, and your poverty will come like a robber, your need, like a bandit. ' Proverbs 6:10-11
Take a minute and think about what is really being left on the table? Are you cutting your quiet time short? Are you ignoring your time with God?
Are you relegating time with God to Sundays at church? Think about it and get honest with yourself.
What needs to change? What is your spirit asking of you?
What type of man do you want to become? Are you leaving time on the table and ultimately losing out?
Before you speed read through this, I challenge you to sit on these questions for 24 hours.
Let them marinate in your mind and your heart. Let them remind you of the love for Jesus you once had.
What about your talent? What about your talent are you leaving on the table? What are you doing to extrapolate every nutrient of talent God has given to you today?
What are you doing practically? When you finish your race of life, God is going to ask you, "how did you maximize the talent I gave you?"
Here comes the good part. How are you maximizing the talent God gave you for His glory? Do people know that God is your source?
When was the last time you gave Him glory publicly? What would that look like for you? What is stopping you?
Just like the nose-to-tail analogy, are you using every bit of talent God gave you for His glory? Or, are you using the talent He gave you for your glory, and leaving his part of the deal on the table?
Jesus gives us the words we all want to hear in Matthew 25. He even tells us how to do it. (Take time to read the parable of the talents in Matthew 25.)
' “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’ ' Matthew 25:21
Lastly, let's not forget about what is being left on the table with your treasure.
Jesus drills it in pretty hard in Matthew 6 when he says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
What are you leaving on the table with your finances? What are you leaving there that should be used?
What are you avoiding doing in your finances for the Lord? Maybe you think it's too hard or it doesn't apply to you?
Maybe you know you should be more generous, but you keep telling yourself, "when I make more money."
Open up your banking app, or credit card app and do a personal inventory of what goes to the Kingdom?
What-are-you-leaving-on-the-table?
What are you so afraid of?
I didn't wake up today with this idea in my heart for no reason. God wants to get all the nutrients into your life. He wants no money left on the table. He wants you to max out in every area of your life.
However, you have to do the work. You have to be honest with yourself. You have to look yourself in the mirror and admit you have missed it.
The Lord's Prayer is a great starting point for what to say and how to say it.
' And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]. ' Matthew 6:12
Let it go, so you can move forward in faith. It's time for you to level up. It's time for you to put away childish things. It's time for you to get clarity in your purpose so you can live with passion.
It all starts with not leaving anything on the table.
If you accept this challenge, let me know.
If this hits, let me know. I'd love to be praying for you and with you.
Rooting for you.
