THE FOUR AGREEMENTS / DAY 3 / HOW TO STOP MAKING ASSUMPTIONS

Agreement #3 is to not make assumptions.

An assumption is defined as a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof.

A simpler way to think of the word assumption is to replace it with the word belief. When you assume something, you believe it to be true whether or not there is evidence to support it.

The reason why it’s so powerful to not make assumptions is that your beliefs form who and what you become. If you have a habit of making assumptions, you are constructing a life not built on truth.

John 8:32 says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

If you want to build a life of freedom, it’s important to build a life on truth. You may be asking, “what is truth?”

In John 14:26, Jesus gives us a clear picture of truth when he says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

If you are seeking Jesus and His ways, you are seeking truth. As you seek truth, you will discover freedom in every area you seek.

Why will you find freedom?

In 2 Corinthians 3:17, Paul nails down freedom when he writes, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

Freedom is closer than you think. The truth you seek is closer than you realize. The Bible gives you a clear picture of where it is, and how to find it.

Instead of believing, or making assumptions about how to attain it and achieve it, make a new agreement. It’s time to form a new belief.

Dismantle the old thinking, the old agreements in areas where you did not have valid evidence. Discover the evidence you need to build a new belief system so you can live free in your passion and purpose.

Let’s destroy some old assumptions (which are untrue beliefs).

  • I am not good enough.

  • I am not worthy.

  • The Bible doesn’t work for me.

  • I’m not a spiritual person.

  • I’ve tried that before.

  • I don’t know my purpose.

  • I am too old.

  • I am too young.

  • I am too poor.

  • I don’t have enough time.

All of these assumptions are untrue. These are agreements you have made without the necessary evidence to support them. The above beliefs are only perspectives. They are illusions.

This isn’t to belittle your failures, obstacles, or pain. What I am challenging is your belief about failure, obstacles, and pain. I want to challenge the agreements you have made and continue to make.

If the Bible says, “it’s the truth you know that will set you free,” and you’re not living a life of freedom, then what are the truths you are believing? What are the assumptions you are building your life upon?

The Apostle Paul was beaten, shipwrecked and beat up but his focus was on the vision for his life, not on his struggles. His agreements were built on truth, rather than assumptions.

What assumptions are you making about your life?
When you verbalize or write them down, what does it feel like?
What new agreements do you want to make for your life?
Where will these new agreements take you?
What will these new agreements do for you?
Who should not be included in these new agreements?
Who needs to be included in these new agreements?
What is the Holy Spirit speaking to you right now?

I want you to begin to see what these new agreements will do for your life. I believe the Holy Spirit is going to show you what you need to know.

In Psalms 23 it says, “He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.” I’m praying for these moments to be made alive in you.

As you begin to seek and search for spiritual growth, the Lord will give you the right growth, in the right area, at the right time.

As you seek truth in your agreements, you will find the perfect gifts God has for you.

Let me know what resonated with you the most?

I’m rooting for you and praying with you.
