How do you break old agreements?
The Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Agreements begin as thoughts that are believed and then acted upon. Paul speaks to this directly when he writes, “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
If you are to break old agreements, you must renew your mind. Another version says, “renovate your mind.” I love that picture of the work that needs to be done mentally for you to transform.
My bride and I love watching those renovating shows on TV and this idea of renovating your mind is so powerful. Imagine the type of mind you want to create.
Think about renovating your mind and what that would look like? The Bible gives us a clear picture of what a renovated mind looks like.
Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Isaiah 26:3 says, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Philippians 4:8 says, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Matthew 22:37 says, And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Each and every one of these verses is building new agreements for your life. Your new agreements overwrite the old.
The scriptures say it like this, “the past is gone, the new has come.”
I want you to take some time to think about some of the old agreements and mindsets you have been holding onto.
Because God is good, when you focus on those negative agreements and beliefs, you are not connected to God.
When you connect to God, the source of love, you are connecting to a higher power. You are connecting directly to abundance, patience, kindness, self-control, meekness, gentleness, joy, and more.
If you want to create new agreements, if you want to create empowering agreements; connect to the source of all things good. Set your mind on things above, rather than earthly issues.
I’d like to present a challenge to you.
If you are serious about creating new agreements, begin writing down every thought you have in the morning.
Start small, focus on the morning. As you master the morning, add the afternoon. When you master the first half of the day, continue with the rest of the day.
If you want to live a life full of abundance, faith, joy, patience, kindness, self-control, and all the good things God has for you, you must start with awareness.
Awareness is the key to personal transformation.
If you are to renovate your mind, you must first know what is in your mind right? You must take inventory and measurements.
When you know what you have, you can create new agreements, and new beliefs to transform. You will be living free in your purpose and passion.
God’s love will be abounding in you. His name will be glorified and you will help others do the same.
This is the gospel message. This is good news.
