What makes you cry?
When was the last time you really cried, and do you remember why?
Think about the things that truly grieve you?
Is it battered wives, abused children, mass shootings, failure, or poverty? Have you ever taken the time to become aware of what makes you cry?
When was the last time you dug deep into the subconscious of your life?
Do you ever wonder what hidden treasures are down there?
I cry in movies all the time. I'm a total weeper.
I don't just cry at the obvious ones such as Rudy, The Blind Side, Wonder, or Greenbook. I also cry in films such as Zootopia, Monsters University, Goonies, and Top Gun: Maverick.
As I said, I'm a crier.
Over the years, I’ve realized that I cry because I care.
I love comeback stories, it's part of my assignment on Earth. Becoming a part of someone else's success drives me.
When I sit with clients, I love asking them about their why in life. After they spit out a few answers, I love following it up with this statement.
If your why doesn't make you cry, it's not your why.
Your tears are powerful. They are incredible guideposts into your future and your assignment.
In 1980 Candice Lightner received news that her daughter was in a fatal car accident. This is news that would cause any mother or father to cry. Candice did cry, but she also did something about it.
Candice founded MADD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving). It's an organization lobbying against the destructive forces of alcohol. She created it in her pain.
Candice used the power of her tears to start a movement. Her assignment was born and the organization has helped bring awareness and reduced drunk driving deaths by 50%.
Her tears brought action, saving the tears of millions of families.
In John 11:35, we are reminded that “Jesus wept.” It may be the shortest verse in the Bible, but it’s also one of the most powerful.
The savior of the world wept, but why?
The beginning of John chapter 11 tells us that Mary and Martha brought a message to Jesus. The message was, “the one who you love is sick.” They were referencing Lazarus.
When Jesus arrived, it appeared he was too late. Lazarus was dead and in a tomb. However, the tears of Jesus were signs of his assignment.
His tears show us his love for his friend.
His tears show us his empathy for others.
His tears show us his desire to be believed.
What about your tears? What are your tears leading you toward? How can you use them to guide you in your assignment?
They are there for a reason. What brings you tears is a significant clue to a solution you are assigned to solve.
If you understood the amount of value you are to the world, you would not sleep until you discovered your assignment.
All of the pain you have endured is not in vain. All of the tears you have cried are packed with purpose. Your assignment is on the other side of that pain.
I know you see it. I know you know it. My prayer is that you will have the strength to move toward it.
Be mindful of what makes you cry. Your tears are a sign of your assignment.
